I took the CATA bus to work this morning, and my driver was Gloucester’s Eddie Salah. Knowing that he owned George’s Coffee Shop on Washington Street at one time, I asked him if he was a good cook. “Hell no, I can’t even scramble an egg! Gloucester attorney Mike Faherty ordered a scrambled egg breakfast, and I had folded it over like an omlette. Mike showed me how to cook it right, and I’m sure he remembers that hilarious event. That was about 40 years ago, when I was a 17 year old trainee.” Eddie is one of the most colorful and entertaining people I’ve met, and a good driver too! Today, Georges is one of the best breakfast joints around, and is still owned and operated by a Salah. https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=george’s+coffee+shop+gloucester+ma&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&gws_rd=ssl

I feel like every time I do a post about breakfast in Gloucester I have to attach the “We are so blessed to have so many awesome breakfast joints in Gloucester” disclaimer but there are a couple that are just straight up special and have been executing perfectly for decades. George’s is one of the elite of the elite in town. If you haven’t gone there recently you’re really missing out. nephew BJ is monster fan of the breakfast boats shown here-

Practically since I arrived in Gloucester, people have been telling me I have to try breakfast at George’s (178 Washington Street). For one reason or another, I had not made it until this past Sunday when I had breakfast there after Mass with some parishioners. From among the many appetizing things on the menu, I chose “breakfast boats”:
That’s three potato halves, hollowed out and filled in with scrambled eggs and bacon, topped with shredded cheese and served with salsa and sour cream. Wow. It tasted as good as it looks! However, it was twice what I could eat, so I ended up with leftovers for later. Definitely worth ordering! We were all satisfied with our meals. I had tried a bite of someone’s plate-sized pineapple coconut pancake, and it was delicious too…
While we ate, I saw this unusual sight:
I’ve never seen a sign like that on a car before. The owner must have real problems with people trying to get friendly with those beautiful hounds. It reminds me of this scene from “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (which I just watched again):
The Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Smack Talk Has Begun In Earnest
We would like our theme song to be “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch” since we are the Muffin Tops!
“We are gonna send Georges back sailin to Gloucester on their breakfast boat!”

Dean had no idea that his staff went in and decorated the joint in the middle of the night to surprise him as he thought that no one even knew it was his tenth year anniversary of when the keys were handed to him.
There’s a big time camaraderie in there with everyone who works, they obviously adore the leader of the pack, Dean and the way he runs the place with a warm smile and respect and a kind word for everyone. One of Gloucester’s finest he is!
Dean is a guy that makes you proud of your community and brings people together to celebrate the positive. A TRUE GLOUCESTERMAN!
Cheers Dean and to the rest of your wonderful crew at George’s!
Dean Salah Writes-
Hey Joey, we are selling the first ever male breast cancer calendars at the shop. I would appreciate any help you could give in promoting this very worthwhile fund raiser. My good friend Pete Devereaux is a male breast cancer survivor and is featured in the calendar. All the gentlemen featured in the calendar were either U.S. Marines who served at Camp Lejeune or were born on the base. All are male breast cancer survivors. Surely everyone has been touched in some way by breast cancer. These calendars make a great gift or keepsake for those who have been affected by breast cancer. The calendars were made by ArtBecause and are very well done. They sell for $20 and checks can be made payable to : ArtBecause. All proceeds will fund a male breast cancer research project.
