Art! Music! Poetry! Dance! on Motif No.1 Day

Lots of great stuff is going on this year in Rockport at the annual Motif No.1 Day. We have the Rockport Farmers Market, coffee from Twin Lights Coffee Co., burgers from Seaview Farm, lots of good stuff from the Rockport New Year’s Eve Food Booth and crepes from the soon-to-be-open StudioCrepe restaurant by the train station.

A Seaside Circus, great live music, interactive activities like the Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, poetry readings, and much more are all part of the event, not to mention the Motif No.1 Day 5K and Fun Run, with proceeds going to benefit health & wellness at Rockport Elementary School!

Go to www.rockportexchange.org for a Schedule of Events, but keep in mind more good things will be added before the festival takes place on May 21st.

Halloween Wreath

Are looking for something to do with the kids/grandkids this weekend? Try this Last Minute Halloween Craft. It’s fun for all ages!

Supplies

1  14 inch metal wreath form with 4 dividing sections

8 large black trash bags

1/4 Yellow plastic table cloth

1/4 Orange plastic table cloth

1 Festive bow

1 -3 sequence embellishments

1 twelve inch length thin craft wire

Step-by-Step

1  Cut trash bag in half length wise; place one half ontop of other; fold in half again; cut; fold in half again and cut, fold and cut one last time making eight 15×17 pieces; repeat with remaining 7 bags (64 pieces)

2 Cut each plastic table cloth section into five 15×17 inch pieces( 5 of each color)

3  Tie 8 black pieces in a single knot, one at a time, to the inside ring; repeat this step, until all 4 inside sections are completed

4  Tie 8 black pieces to each outside ring section

3  Tie orange and yellow pieces evenly spaced around wreath; fluff and open all pieces

4   Using craft wire secure festive bow, and sequence embellishments

Class on origami boxes and containers at The Hive!

Plain boxes, fancy boxes, boxes with lids from one sheet of paper, boxes made from multiple units…. I will be teaching these and/or similar models, according to the skill and interests of the students (teens and adults), on Thursday, January 24 at 7PM, at The Hive (on Pleasant Street).

Also, if there is interest in classes on additional themes, please let me know! I would like to do one class a month at The Hive, but that depends somewhat on how busy I am at the parish and on the level of interest and participation.  I can probably find material to cover  just about any theme (dinosaurs, flowers, dragons, horses, frogs, insects…) although how much we can do depends somewhat on the experience of the students.

Plain boxes, fancy boxes, boxes with lids from one sheet of paper, boxes made from multiple units…. I will be teaching these and/or similar models, according to the skill and interests of the students, on Thursday, January 24 at 7PM, at The Hive (on Pleasant Street).  Materials will be provided.   I will post more information soon about how to RSVP and about the fee for participation (to pay for materials and to support The Hive) as soon as I have it.
