DON’T MISS THE FALL ISSUE OF CAPE ANN MAGAZINE!

Don’t miss the current issue of Cape Ann magazine featuring a terrific article about the Schooner Lannon and Captains Heath and Tom Ellis (and Polly Five Toes!), written by Terry Date. There’s also a great read about the Straitsmouth Savages and their restoration efforts to reclaim Straitsmouth Island, written by Mary Markos, with photos by Desi Smith. Our issue arrived this morning and I have yet to read all, but am looking forward to reading from cover to cover.

WELCOME SCHOONERS!!

Brett Nick Max Ramsey Gloucester Schooner Fest welcome 2016 copyright Kim SmithWhat a treat to tag along with Gloucester’s own Schooner Festival welcoming committee Brett Ramsey and his sons Max and Nick. Each year Brett purchases and assembles baskets of fresh fruit. Along with loaves of yummy bread still warm from Virgilio’s ovens (donated by Joe Virgilio), Brett and his family welcome each and every participating schooner. You could tell that the recipients were really grateful and touched by the gesture.

Special shout out to GMG FOB Schooner Green Dragon’s captain Al Bezanson. I was out filming early this morning and stopped by Rocky Neck Accommodations to say hello to Al and his wife Phyllis. This was Al’s idea to cover the Schooner Fest welcome for GMG, so thank you Al Bezanson!!

“Polly-Five-Toe” The Gull Visits the Thomas E. Lannon

_2015_07_25_065362“Polly-Five-Toe the Gull” started visiting the Thomas E. Lannon in 2014, it returned again this year.  Capt. Heath has become friends with “Polly-5-Toe” as you can see in the slide show below.  Polly-5-Toe loves oyster crackers and sits on the back of the Lannon, or on Capt. Heath’s hand to enjoy her crackers.

Video: Sunset Sail Aboard the Gorgeous Schooner Thomas E. Lannon

Many thanks to Captains Tom and Heath Ellis, Kay Ellis, Bob and Kathryn Ryan, and Paul Giacalone for hosting the 4th Annual Good Morning Gloucester Sunset Cruise aboard the elegant Schooner Thomas E. Lannon. Old friends and new enjoyed the beautiful harbor views, the superb cocktails and aged rum provided by Bob and Kathryn Ryan, and Cuban cigars from Paul Giacalone. We almost didn’t have Joey aboard as a lobster boat came in late, but the Ellis’s Zodiac provided last minute transport to the schooner.

I had never filmed on a schooner, or any boat for that matter, and it was So Much Fun.  I cannot wait to try it again!! Admittedly, I’ve only been on a boat less than half a dozen times (excluding the ferry to and from Martha’s Vineyard) and think I have been missing out on way too much. Thanks again Joey, Tom, Kay, Heath, Bob, Kathryn, Paul, and Ship’s Crew for a great night of fun and beauty aboard the gorgeous Schooner Lannon!
