Sold! Happy buyers at the Sawyer Free Annual Art auction

Scenes from last evening’s night at the auction. Great fun and success!

Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library annual art auction takes place every October. Pictures from the 2017 preview installation. The Art Advisory Committee and a big team of volunteers does a fantastic job fostering community, boosting artists and  fundraising. The artists are generous. It’s a great month to join or renew your Sawyer Free membership. They’re currently ‘friend’raising.  Sign up and join here. Oct. 15-21, 2017 is the 12th annual National Friends of Libraries Week

Artist constituency steps up mightily! Don’t miss Oct 4th annual art auction scene for Sawyer Free Library

It’s great to see the beautiful Matz Gallery at Sawyer Free featuring local artists again. There’s always room for the traveling exhibitions on walls and rooms elsewhere in the building, but I think the Matz gallery and Sawyer Free library sings most when it devotes its main exhibition space to local artists.

Save the date for the LIVE event! OCTOBER 4, 2017

The annual benefit exhibition is hung salon style in advance of an exciting annual live auction reception. Stop by to preview the art or leave a silent bid.  Minimum opening bids range from $40-$400. On October 4th, bring your family, friends and co-workers. There’s always a great buzz in the room.  Bid alone or ‘group-on’ with friends–and generously! You’ll help the artist and the art community in general as well as the library.

Sawyer Free Library deserves the community’s support. Here’s a list of all the 2017 participating magnanimous artists (many are repeat donors). Enjoy some photos from the exhibit to draw your attention to the art.

Live Art Auction October 1st at the Sawyer Free Library! Preview Party at 6:00pm

Wednesday evening at 7 PM on the main floor of the Sawyer Free Library, 70 pieces of local art will be up for bid during the Annual Sawyer Free Library Art Auction. The auction has been a major library event for nearly 20 years, supporting programming, student art scholarships, and museum passes as well as art book, periodicals and DVD purchases.

The evening begins at 6 PM with a preview reception on the main floor, followed by the live auction at 7PM. Once again Jack Good, current President of the Essex National Heritage Commission, will be the auctioneer. Many generous local artists donate each year to this festive event. Just a few of the 70 artists represented include David Curtis, Jeff Weaver, Paul Frontiero, Don Gorvette, Ray Crane, Peter Tysver, Bob Blue, Theresa Wonson, Margaret Laurie, Mary Rhinelander, Susie Field, Fred Kepler, Brenda Malloy, Coco Berkman, Bob Blue, Paul George, Sinikka Nogelo and Kate Nordstrom, Allen Sloane.

Featured this year is a painting by the late Margaret Laurie donated by her daughter Jeannine Lynch; a painting donated by the widow of the late Bob Blue and a seascape painting by the late Paul Frontiero donated by his son Paul Frontiero Jr.

The auction is a win-win for all. It’s an opportunity to support local artists, purchase quality art at affordable prices, and support the interests of the community and its library.
