EVENT DESCRIPTION:

The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is pleased to announce the next event of its monthly series called Music & Meditation in the Meetinghouse (MMM) that offers Cape Ann residents and visitors a unique combination of beautiful music and relaxing meditation.  Each MMM event offers the participants an opportunity to enjoy a different combination of peaceful self-awareness through various kinds of meditation enhanced by the musical offerings.

The October event features meditation leader Elizabeth McLindon singer, Brian King.  There will be a collation with light refreshments afterwards in the Entrance House, giving participants the opportunity to meet the leaders and each other in a convivial atmosphere.

The MMM experience is intended to be comforting, entertaining and spiritual but it is emphatically not a church service.  It is held in the candle-lit sanctuary of the grand Meetinghouse, a place of gathering and welcoming for the entire Gloucester community for over 200 years.   The Meetinghouse, whose lantern tower with a Paul Revere bell has guided generations of mariners safely into our harbor, is on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is the oldest and largest surviving building of its type on Cape Ann.

The Sanctuary is accessible with facilities for persons with disabilities via the side entrance at 10 Church Street.   A free-will offering of $10 is requested but no one will be turned away and everyone is welcome regardless of financial capability.  Find your way Sunday evening to the green at the corner of Middle and Church Streets to discover an hour of peace, enjoyment and contemplation in Gloucester’s historic 1806 Meetinghouse.

MEDITATION LEADERElizabeth McLindon:  Elizabeth McLindon

With early roots in Catholicism, Elizabeth studied Theravadan Buddhism in the 1990s, and has been practicing Mahayana Buddhism for the past several years.   She learned Transcendental Meditation in 1983, then Insight meditation in the ‘90s, and is focused now on Shamatha and Vipashyana which is a big part of her life and practice.   Elizabeth is a local massage therapist and meditation teacher.

David Roth with Connor Garvey at Old Sloop Coffeehouse – 10/10/15

David Roth strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with his unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, sense of the hilarious, and powerful singing and subject matter. As singer, songwriter, recording artist, keynote speaker, workshop leader, and instructor, David has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions – Kerrville (TX) and Falcon Ridge (NY) – and taken his music, experience, and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries full-time for more than two decades.

Connor Garvey is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Portland, Maine, with the amiable presence of an entertainer, the lyrical depth of a poet, and the enchantment of a storyteller.

Garvey leaves audiences uplifted and inspired through a positive message delivered in a way The Portland Press Herald says proves you can be optimistic and self-aware without being boring. His unique sandy tenor and masterful blend of rhythm and melody draw comparison to Paul Simon and contemporaries Josh Ritter and Jason Mraz. He wins song competitions. He fills rooms. But most of all he moves people.

Who Will Pledge To Vote With Me? (and a great reason you should) also send in your Voting Selfies Today!

SEND IN YOUR VOTING SELFIES!!!!

I PLEDGE TO VOTE. WILL YOU?

Speaking to a local elected official about elections did you know that there are lists available to them that tell them exactly who gets out and votes in each election?

So I’m sure that elected officials listen to all of their constituents and volunteer their time because they truly love this place, but don’t you think that if you don’t even bother to vote and candidates know that you don’t even bother to vote then maybe your concerns might be just a teeny weeny tiny bit less important to them than someone they know is actively voting in every election?

I’m pledging to vote and I hope you will too. Leave a comment on this post if you intend to vote.

Send in your selfie from in front of your polling station on election day and I’ll post it here on the pages of GMG. Be sure not to send in pictures of your ballot.  Just you in front of the spot where you vote.

Be counted!

An Offer To All #GloucesterMA Election Candidates:
gmglogohires

As you all know we don’t take political stances here or endorse candidates but what I’d like to offer is an invitation for any candidate that is running for office in Gloucester to submit a video explaining why they think they are best suited for the position they are running for. The easiest way to do this would be to upload the video to YouTube.

The videos will be released once and placed on GMG at 7PM on the following night that they are received. If more than one video is submitted to me at goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com then the first one that is submitted will be aired the following evening at 7PM and the next one submitted will be posted the following evening at 7PM. There will be a link in each candidates post containing their video to goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com which will have all previously submitted candidate’s videos.

Once they are submitted they will be added to https://2015gloucestermaelection.wordpress.com/ where all the videos will be available for viewing at any time on the same page.

In the title of the video it should list the candidate’s name- position they are running for and the words “GMG submission”.

As always the GMG politics disclaimer- any post on these pages containing a candidate does not imply an endorsement for any candidate. Comments on www.goodmorninggloucester.com for these video submissions on the blog will be turned off for these posts as well.

Hopefully this will serve to help candidates get their message across.

Good luck and thank you to all that participate in the process for the love of Gloucester and making it better.

If a candidate is not able to create a video to submit, then that speaks in my opinion to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government. If a candidate doesn’t read GMG or doesn’t get the word about this opportunity then that also speaks to their qualifications to hold a position at this level of City Government knowing the reach GMG has.

The Thing About Our Cigar and Rum Cruise Aboard The Thomas E Lannon Is That We Never Have Any Fun

I’ve said it for as long as I can remember. If I had a visitor in Gloucester for only one day and they wanted to do the very best thing they could do in this city and it could be only one thing, at the pinnacle of my list would be a sunset cruise aboard the Thomas E Lannon. The pinnacle. As in the very tippity top of the list. Such a no-brainer good time, The Ellis family are the nicest, funnest, most hospitable people in this town, the Lannon is the most beautiful boat in town, you get Gloucester Harbor. It Is The Perfect Evening, Every Single Time!
It doesn’t hurt that you get to share your time drinking with Gloucester’s finest spirits with Bobby and Doug Ryan from Ryan and Wood, and 95Plus rated cigars from Paul Giacalone. Win Win Win
