My fingers froze and I had to call it quits yet despite the bitterly cold five degree temperature and biting wind, day break brought blue skies and beautiful sea smoke all along the backshore, from Gloucester’s Ten Pound Island Lighthouse to Rockport’s Twin Lighthouses. Take heart friends -today is the last day of January- only … Continue reading #GLOUCESTERMA DEEP FREEZE SEA SMOKE GOOD HARBOR BEACH, TWIN LIGHTS, EASTERN POINT, BACKSHORE, TEN POUND ISLAND, NILES POND
Sea Smoke is so beautiful, the only problem is getting out of the car to take a photo.
Snapshots from a brief tour around the back shore while out doing errands this afternoon. With temperatures hovering at 5 degrees, Cape Ann was blanketed with a thick layer of impenetrable ice, snow squalls, and sea smoke. Happy to see the temperatures are heading towards the forties after Tuesday! At 4 degrees the sea smoke amazing me.
How could I not pull over and take some photos of this stunning sight? Pigeon Cove was gorgeous early yesterday morning…but, holy crap, it was cold out!

The sea smoke rising around the perimeter of Cape Ann was pretty spectacular yesterday. Here are photos from Rockport Harbor and Lighthouse Beach. Thanks to Paul Horovitz for the great shot from the Annisquam.
When the temperature is 2 degrees and the ocean water was 46 degrees, the sea smoke forms. It is awesome.
Beautiful sea smoke along the back shore yesterday morning. North Light South Light
