ESPN8: The Ocho

I mean, I’ve been kind of wondering what all of the sports networks would be covering during these long weeks, but I didn’t give it much thought.  But then Sunday night I found my husband watching “Dodge Juggle.”  What?   So, I had to look into it. You’ve all probably heard about it…but, I hadn’t.

Turns out it’s a thing….and it was part of ESPN8: The Ocho’s all day line up of sports…. “seldom seen sports” as ESPN affectionately calls them.  I’m so sad I missed much of the line up, but maybe you can find it on demand.  I listed all of the events included in The Ocho below…along with some videos from a few of the competitions.

Straight out of “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” and in an attempt to fill the void for viewers in need of competitive sports content, ESPN is bringing back ESPN8: The Ocho with “a full 24 hours of seldom seen sports” programming Sunday on ESPN2, the network announced Thursday.

This will be the fourth version of ESPN8: The Ocho since 2017, inspired by the 2004 movie starring Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor and the late Rip Torn as Dodgeball legend Patches O’Houlihan.

Some of the self-explanatory events scheduled for Sunday include the Stupid Robot Fighting League, Jelle’s Marble Runs, Cherry Pit Spitting, Sign Spinning and World Sport Cup Stacking championships, as well as events in Cornhole, axe throwing, arm wrestling Spikeball, putt-putt golf and stone skipping.

Yes, there even will be a Dodgeball tournament involving teams from the United States and Canada, although it’s unclear if it will feature Peter LeFleur (played by Vaughn) and his Average Joe’s Gymnasium squad pitted against White Goodman (portrayed by Stiller) and his Globo Gym.
