PASSPORTS WINE DINNER DELIGHT!

We enjoyed yet another outstanding Passports wine dinner event this past Thursday evening, hosted by owner and Chef Eric Lorden and wine expert Matt Rose. Each of the four wonderfully delicious courses was paired with the perfect wine from the Loire Valley of France. And too, my husband and I enjoy so much the welcoming wait staff at Passports. Michael and Sally were our servers and they are always friendly and professional. We especially appreciate their fine and seamless service during the wine dinner events with a dining room bursting with patrons.

IMG_9164My favorite of the wines was the Champalou, Vouvray 2014 accompanying the salad of heirloom tomatoes, Tasso Lardons, Dolce Bleu, fava beans, butter lettuce, and Provencal vinaigrette.

Passports serves lunch and dinner seven days a week. They open at 11:30 am. You’ll love their everyday menu and they also post daily specials on Facebook, which you can check out here. Passports will be resuming their wine dinners in the early fall.

THANKS TO GOOD HARBOR BEACH’S DPW CREW TONY AND MURRAY FOR THE GREAT WORK THEY DO!

Each and every morning the DPW is out there cleaning Good Harbor Beach. They do an absolutely tremendous job. You would be shocked at what people leave behind, and the sheer volume of it. I am usually filming in non-public spaces and it has been an eye opener working at a public beach in the early morning. If you see these guys, please tell them thanks.

Beach Stickers can be used for both.
Residents stickers are not and can not be used at Beaches.
Hope this helps.
The following parking areas require either a resident beach sticker or
a resident parking sticker with a nominal fee associated with the
purchase of a resident parking sticker: good for a period of five
years beginning in 2012 and every five years thereafter.
Beach Court, for its entire length.
Commercial Street, #17—#21, westerly side, in a southerly direction to
its intersection with Beach Court.
Day Avenue, both sides beginning at its intersection with High Street
for its entire length in a southerly direction.
Eastern Point Boulevard, Niles Beach area, westerly side, (Niles Beach

IMG_0775.JPG Not a bad place to spend your time…

Saltwater Massage Studio is currently looking for an experienced, motivated, and friendly massage therapist to join our team on a part-time basis during July and August. There is potential for the position to become long-term. Our primary staffing need is Friday through Sunday, but weekday sub hours will also be available on a regular basis throughout the summer.

This is a great job for an experienced therapist with a flexible schedule who likes to work independently. Must demonstrate an ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for clients, posses a personal interest in self-care and holistic health, and – most importantly – provide a great massage that simultaneously addresses symptoms of pain and stress while offering an experience of ultra relaxation. This is a laid-back atmosphere, and the right personality fit is someone who is self-directed, has a sense of humor…

1950’s Fiesta Photos

My Aunt and Uncle, Sharon and Wayne Martin, sent me a few slides they found in their photo collection from St. Peter’s Fiesta taken sometime in the 1950’s which I have converted to digital format.    I love looking at the old photos and I hope someone can recognize the locations, people or exact year they may have been taken.

Solar Voyager: Gloucester to Lisbon Needs your Help!

Two days ago as Solar Voyager was whirring along under solar power from Gloucester to Lisbon 60 miles south of Sable Island and something happened. One of two motors conked out and it was tossed around, submerged a bit, maybe dragged by something. Two days later the motor is still out. The most likely explanation is that fishing line is wrapped around a propeller.

After two days I'm getting a little dizzy!

Last night Solar Voyager tweeted: “We could really use some help! Anyone know anyone who fishes in the Grand Banks or has a boat in Nova Scotia?

If you know anyone in the area fishing you can find the GPS coordinates refreshed ever 15 minutes here. Leave comments on this post if you think you might know someone. There is only a 7 knot breeze and 1 foot waves so it should be easy to spot. Think of a large aluminum kayak painted blue. I doubt there are many that size out there.

[edit] add photo of props (photo is from the Gloucester High School Sailing Facebook page)

[second edit] Read comments from Solar Voyager.

One prop jammed and the rudder is not happy either. Line might be wrapping a prop and dangling off hitting the rudder.

If

I can’t help but think each Father’s Day, as a mother of two young boys, that they are most likely going to grow up to be fathers themselves one day.  I hope that I am preparing them, as best as I can, be be good fathers, good husbands, good friends, and good people.

I first read If by Rudyard Kipling in college during a poetry course.  I kind of feel in love with it.  I have thought of its words often while watching my young boys sleep, giggle, stumble, smile, play, skate, cry, struggle, succeed, throw and grow.

If

By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
