Tulips in our garden
Tom Burger, Bea Waring, and Andree Robert
A splendid time was had by all at the Gloucester Stage Company spring celebration, held at the lovely, brand newly built home of hosts Andree and Tom Burger.
GSC Managing Director Jeff Zinn, Tom, Andree, and GSC Artistic Director Robert Walsh
L to R: Current Gloucester Stage Board President Elizabeth Neumeier; Member of Spring Celebration Committee and Gloucester resident Shelley Morgan; Former Gloucester Stage Board member and Magnolia resident Shelia Lummis and Former Gloucester Stage Board President Bea Waring
Cabaret artists Brian Patton and Leslie Anderson led a lively sing along of show tunes. The evening was topped by a silent auction of exciting travel and treasure donations. The Riverbend restaurant still under construction is coming to the Essex Marina area with a target date of sometime in June. Great views from this spot of the marshes and Essex River. They are still looking for help in the wait staff and bartending positions. More to follow.
Does anyone know what the space through which the rudder post runs is called?
I took these shots on April 30. At the time, I didn’t know what I was shooting. I could see something in the distance on the wall, but didn’t know what it was (I was shooting from Oakes Cove at Ten Pound Island). There was no boat anywhere near or on shore, so I didn’t think it was people. If you recognize yourselves, tell us – how in the world did you get out there?
In honor of the annual Crowning Feast of the Holy Spirit which begins tonight, today’s Gloucester Motif Monday is a legacy one.
Good Morning Gloucester is an indisputable platform for outreach and community. A couple of years ago, because of research I was doing about Gordon Parks in Gloucester and thankfully Joey posted on Good Morning Gloucester, I was able to interview Manny Carrancho. Manny and his family spent considerable time giving me a detailed account of earlier events in their lives. They shared treasured historic photos and first hand knowledge and were a delight.
This week I’ll feature photographs from a souvenir picture album in Manny’s collection as they feature Our Lady of Good Voyage and one of the Madonna statues. The photographs are from a booklet: Coronation Our Lady Of Good Voyage, produced with cooperation of the Portuguese Daily News and photography by Hollywood Studio, New Bedford, MA. You will see the Our Lady statue on the vessel Gil Eannes with Bishop Don Manuel Salguiero. Its special arrival is met by a town procession led by Arch Bishop Wright and dignitaries at the State Pier. Twelve fishermen were selected to greet them. Let us know if you recognize family in the photographs. Were you there?
news edit: Brenda Mason Budrow writes that the little girl in one photo is Mary Jean (Ribeiro) Mason, her mom. Thanks, Brenda!
Tonight: the Crowning Feast of the Holy Spirit begins May 9th 2016 in Our Lady’s Church.
More photos to come.

Had a nice Mother’s Day yesterday with all my girls home. Funny part was it’s the first week in May and we had the fireplace going all day! AND…. in case anyone was wondering, that was the sun in the sky yesterday afternoon so of course I ended my Mother’s Day by catching the sunset at Lane’s Cove last night! Hoping the rain is behind us and there are more nights like this to enjoy! (ok maybe it could be a little warmer lol!)
If Boat Yards was a category on Jeopardy. Such pretty colors….for a big pile in a boat yard.
