Now did I get this right or did I get this right? People who buy Apple products aren’t looking for the cheap version, they’re looking for the best version available.

Apple Cites ‘Incredible’ Launch Day Demand for iPhone 5s

iPhone 5S FrontIt appears that Apple is having yet another successful iPhone launch day, with the all-new gold iPhone 5s facing the biggest constraints thus far.

“Demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and we are currently sold out or have limited supply of certain iPhone 5s models in some stores,” an Apple representative told AllThingsD.

Estimated shipping dates for most iPhone 5s models have been pushed back to at least 7 – 10 days worldwide, with certain models not shipping until October. On the contrary, there remains more widespread availability of the iPhone 5c in all colors through most retail channels.

The cheaper plastic 5c is readily available while the upscale top of the line iPhone 5s is getting backed up and limited supply.

Now if they would just listen to me instead of offering the cheaper version, they should have offered the super no-compromises version which includes a larger screen, more memory and a larger battery and charge $400 for it and watch apple freaks from all over line up half way to China to buy one and in the process probably win over a bunch of android fans who would have liked a larger phone which previously had only been available on the android platform.

‘FLIGHT’ Exhibit at Cox Reservation in Essex From Bill O’Connor

Hi Joey,

We visited the ‘FLIGHT’ Exhibit  at Cox Reservation in Essex Tuesday and had a lot of fun! The exhibit was designed by Haverhill artist Dale Rogers and will be on display until the end of September. The installation is playful & interactive, and stirs the mind with its contrasting media and its placement in the setting.  The giant steel birds should seem out of place in the setting, but the scope and layout of the installation make it as if it always belonged there.  Make the effort to stop on your way through Essex because it is definitely worth a visit!

Fish on Fridays

The Fish on Fridays series is a collaboration between Gloucester photographers Kathy Chapman and Marty Luster. Look for various aspects of Gloucester’s centuries-old fishing industry highlighted here on Fridays.

Last night and this morning Kathy and Marty photographed the clam flats in Essex where most of the local clams are caught and then sold at Gloucester’s Intershell  http://intershell.biz/.

The 4 feet below and above normal tides during this full moon was a great situation for the clammers. Because razor clams like the shoreline they were easier to catch in this “minus” tide.

Both whelks and conchs are carnivorous gastropods. They eat horseshoe crabs and are a by-catch of the lobster traps and dredging cages used for surf clams.

Harry Cusick Wharf Dedication at Marine Railways

Some photos from this afternoon’s dedication of the new Harry Cusick Wharf at Gloucester Marine Railways – the completion of a 9 year project involving cutting through a myriad of government agency red tape and paperwork by Alice (I’m so sorry Alice, I forgot your last name).  Even a harbor seal and the Ardelle came by to check it out and holler congratulations (Harold, not the seal).  Viking gave a great speech thanking all involved in the process.  It is a really beautiful wharf, and if you haven’t been to the Railways lately, you should go by and check it out.

Moonbeams Over Niles Pond

Yesterday afternoon I was photographing a friend’s garden, looking west towards the very last shimmer of sunlight as it melted into the horizon. I packed up my gear and while heading home, passed the rising Harvest Moon brightly illuminating Niles Pond. Knowing my family was home hungrily waiting for dinner, I hopped out of the car and snapped away for only a brief moment, wishing I could stay but happy to to get a few photos. At this time of year, every which way you turn brings the reward of unfolding beauty.

The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is pleased to announce the fourth in a monthly series called Music & Meditation in the Meetinghouse (MMM) that offers Cape Ann residents and visitors a unique spiritual, but non-religious, experience of beautiful music and relaxing meditation.  It is held in the candle-lit, early-evening setting of the 1806 Meetinghouse with golden light beaming through the stained glass windows.

The September event features meditation leader Dr. Neil Williams and harpist Carol McIntyre.  There will be a collation with sweets and Italian sodas afterwards in the church’s Entrance House, giving participants the opportunity to meet the leaders and each other in a convivial atmosphere.  The Sanctuary is accessible for persons with disabilities via the Church Street Entrance.   A free-will offering is requested and everyone is welcome.

MEDITATION LEADER:

Dr. Neil Williams believes that meditation is a tool like prayer, music, beauty, silence and loving-kindness and that these tools are freely available.  It is in the love of music and beauty that we are connected to one another.  Silence and loving-kindness ground us in difficult times and promote healing.  As a recent immigrant to Gloucester, Dr. Williams is finding everything new and fascinating, especially the rhythms of the sea and the sky.  He observes that meditation allows us to slow down to the speed of life, like the movements in Nature; a gateway to connect with our internal rhythms, our music, and our inner voice.  He believes that this voice within is a reflection of the divine spark we share with all beings.

MUSICIAN:

Carol McIntyre, a harpist from Ipswich, plays classical, folk, celtic and meditation music.   She studied the harp since childhood, receiving a BA in Classical Music from Stanford University, and ventured into Celtic music and playing a folk harp.  Carol is a past New England Scottish Games harp champion.  She plays for many schools in the area and is a past instructor of Comhaltas (Irish Music) School in Cambridge.  Carol currently teaches privately out of her studio in Ipswich.

Legendary…a blues/rock institution…true innovators. These are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown has been described over the past 40 years by music critics and fans. One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever. In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970’s. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today. From London’s Soho night clubs in 1966 to headlining the world’s most famous venues (Carnegie Hall, Fillmore’s East, and West, Cobo Hall, etc.), Savoy Brown has done it all and as the band continues to tour worldwide they give a glimpse into the past and also inspire new listeners with their personal brand of rocking boogie, blues, and rock.

The band will play a special ‘bare essentials’ unplugged show, tailored for the intimate setting of the Shalin Liu Performance Center. For any Savoy Brown fan, this is a unique opportunity to see a one of a kind show with special material!

Just as sure as there’s a New Year’s Eve, A Memorial Day and Labor Day, every year we get treated to the annual story about a person or group of persons who get lost in a corn maze and police or fire departments have to be called in to save these people.

I asked my boy Steve Saleeba at WBZ where he would peg the over/under for days until this annual story gets filed and he replied-

Irving Johnson (1905-1991) was one of the most famous sailors of his century. He circumnavigated the world seven times, in two sailing vessels, both named Yankee. He later commanded a US Navy warship, the USS Sumner during WWII. There's so much to learn about this great man. See Wikipedia and get a copy of his film, Around Cape Horn.

Hello!  My name is Tuqui, I am a happy and outgoing girl.  I love spending time with people and going for walks. I think I am part retriever and Boxer.  As an adult rescue, I am looking for a home with more of an adult slant, like one with children heading into their teens.  I am a large dog and I weight about 55 pounds.  I am at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.
