Barry Marshall visiting from Pacific Grove, CA, represents at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery.  You might remember seeing Barry’s paintbox on Paul Frontiero’s post https://goodmorninggloucester.wordpress.com/2012/05/07/barry-marshall-shows-his/.  Barry is originally from Gloucester, was on Rocky Neck years ago, and back visiting until May 26th.  Aside from the fact that Paul and Ed were jonesing for deviled eggs and didn’t want to wait until Memorial Day weekend, tomorow morning’s Mug Up is also so Barry can meet some GMG peeps before he heads back home to the Central Coast of California.

Theodore Roosevelt Quote Of The Week From Greg Bover

May 17, 2012
“Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”

Theodore Roosevelt, (1858 – 1919)
The 26th President of the United States, TR was born wealthy, but also sickly, suffering from asthma his entire life. To compensate, he embraced “the strenuous life” and was famed for his exuberance and activism. He was elected to the New York State Assembly one year after graduating from Harvard University, and became a force for reform in the Republican Party. He was Vice President to William McKinley and at 42 became the youngest person to hold the office of President when McKinley was assassinated in 1901. He is widely credited as the prime mover behind the completion of the Panama Canal, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating an end to the Russo-Japanese War. A life-long naturalist, Roosevelt was essential in the creation of our National Park System. His refusal to shoot an American black bear that had been tied to a tree created a meme that lives on today in the stuffed Teddy Bear.

Essex River Race this morning.

Rubber Duck thought it would be a nice day to paddle down the Essex River and back.

Ten minutes before Rubber Duck gets to go the Stand Up Paddlers are moving to the starting line.

Several times during the race I heard from the shore, “Hey, there goes Rubber Duck from Good Morning Gloucester!”

Beautiful day for a paddle and I got out of my kayak without falling in the water. Bonus.
