Final Mug Up, Bloody Mary Competition & End of Season Blow Out

We had a great turnout for our next to last Mug Up with Joey C. and some contributors and regulars (Paul Morrison & R.Duck, Paul Frontiero, Donna Ardizzoni and Ed Collard), and new and old friends.  Karen Hanson from Quincy came with Kathy Downer from Rockport, newcomers Mike and Eva DiLascio who moved to Gloucester in July, guest “Out of Africa” artists, Judith Monteferrante, Roger Salisbury and Rich Seeley and his wife Beth, neighbor Richard Rosenfeld, Bob Ryan (with great presents in hand).  Sista Felicia and Amanda arrived with an out of this world still warm apple spice cake (Joey and Felicia’s grandmother’s recipe – see the two of them photographing the cake before it was all gone).  A couple of friends of the blog from FL, Barbara and Gerry McAllister, flew in to experience a Mug Up – great to have you with us.  I’m sorry if I missed anyone.

The Season Grand Finale Mug Up and Ryan & Woods Distilleries sponsored Bloody Mary Competition (yep, we have raised the bar way up) at Rocky Neck, will be on Sunday, October 2.  Bob Ryan has very generously donated some awesome prizes for the creators of the winning Bloody Mary entries, including coasters, t-shirts, and Ryan & Woods Beauport Vodka (!!).  Also, for those planning to enter a Bloody Mary mix, so that we level the playing field and judging is based solely on presentation and mix, and no drink is heavy handed on the alcohol (it will be 10:00 am after all, and we have to protect our judges from inebriation), Beauport Vodka will be conservatively added to all mixes here before they go to the judges and attendees.  So no one has to go out and buy vodka and everyone’s entries will be made with only the best locally distilled Ryan & Woods Beauport Vodka.  Entrants only need bring a container of their best Bloody Mary mix creation and a glass with preferred garnishes for presentation to the judges.  In the best interest of judging time and the judges’ alcohol levels, we will limit the number of entries to six.  Of course, entrants must be 21 years of age or older.  As always at Mug Up, there will be plenty of great coffee, deviled eggs and whatever Mug Up type fare people bring along to share.  Always a good time and everyone is welcome at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck at Madfish Wharf.  This will be the final Mug Up for the season on Rocky Neck, so don’t miss it.

Finally, there will be a Big Blow Out End of Season and Early Holiday Shopping Sale at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery from Saturday, 10/1 through Columbus Day, 10/10.  Everything will be discounted off the already lowered end of season prices, and there will be many items under $20 to choose from.  Wendie Demuth Photography Gallery next door will also be slashing prices and have many great furniture pieces and household items for sale.  Plenty of free parking, and it is such a pretty and cool place to visit.  Other galleries and shops on Rocky Neck are still open too, so it’s a great time to visit and do some local unique holiday shopping while supporting your local art community.  Special note: After 25 years on Rocky Neck, Joe Weiler Photography will be closing for good as of the end of business on Saturday, October 1.  If you have always wanted one of Joe’s beautiful B&W photographs, this is your last chance.

  1. That is wonderful of Bob Ryan to supply his awesome Beauport vodka (of course I was planning on using that in my entry anyway!) and prizes for the contest.

Confirming that you still have me in firm as an entrant, already planned garnishes and glass, now debating which super secret special ingredient to add to my Bloody Mary mix to put it over the top. 🙂

    Can’t wait to see everyone.

  2. Oh, and meant to add….great news, EJ about the Blow Out Sale as I have a bunch of October birthdays to buy presents for this weekend, now I’ll just get them all there after MugUp!

  3. Yes Jenn, you are one of the confirmed entries, as are prior team blue ribbon winners, Stevie Black and Gigi Mederos (deviled egg, lobster roll and now hoping for a 3rd win), Chef Jeff Haywood from Madfish Grille and I believe Schooner Adventure’s Joanne Souza (prior most original deviled egg winning entry and red ribbon lobster roll winner), and Madfish Wharf artist, Jeff Cluett (who divulged to me his amazing sounding bloody mary mix recipe – the judging is going to be intense). There is room for 2 more entrants, so speak up people.

  4. Paul, R&W Beauport Vodka is 80 proof, so not far off. Just bring on your BM mix entry and go for the “Most Like Mom’s” win again, which you probably wouldn’t get with 100 proof. Hope to see you Sunday. I got your print done.
