Welcome to Shelbyville Free screening at the Cape Ann Community Cinema 6/16

HI Joey:
Rob Newton told me to be sure to let you know about a free film and discussion that we are hosting at the Cape Ann Community Cinema on Thursday evening June 16th.

The film is being sponsored by Wellspring English Language Program at the Adult Learning Center (located at the Sawyer Free Library.) We are currently serving about 50 English Language Learners from Brazil, Korea, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and elsewhere with the help of many wonderful volunteer from Cape Ann. Additional sponsors of the film are the Cape Ann Forum, Gloucester UU Church, and Cape Ann Asian American Cultural Alliance.
The film addresses the theme of immigrant integration and community welcoming. I hope you’ll take a look at the trailer and flyer and consider letting your readers know about this exciting free community event.
Also of note, the film is free thanks to the financial support of Deo Braga of Dunkin’ Donuts.

Did You Know? (Sangria and Silpada Girl’s Night Out)

That on Wednesday, June 15th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, E.J. will be hosting a Silpada Designs Jewelry party at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck, featuring beautiful, cool, funky, elegant, fun and affordable sterling silver jewelry by Silpada Designs?  Come over and check out this great jewelry line (I personally love a bunch of their jewelry), have some home made sangria and munchies and check out the gallery.  I don’t intend to carry jewelry in the gallery, but am thinking about having occasional evening jewelry trunk parties.  If you are a jeweler and think you might like to feature your jewelry for an evening, email me at  Also, if you plan to come to the Girl’s Night Out Jewelry Party, please email me and let me know, so I can be sure to make enough sangria.  Did you know sangria is good for you?  It has lots of fruit and red wine packed with antioxidants, for guiltfree imbibing.

Pete Chamberlain Khan Studio/GMG Gallery Guest Artist

You can see Pete’s stuff at the Gallery now through the 23 of June.  I’ve never seen a man with such broad artistic talent from furniture making to watercolor to sculpture and printmaking the guy can do it all.  Amazing.

Barbara Oliver Asks- Are You Innovating Through Social Media?

Social platforms can all work together to attract more eyeballs and iminds to what you do.

Okay…so you are a Gloucester artist, non profit or small biz. You regularly post on Facebook, you may even have tried your hand at Twitter and you may have a LinkedIn profile. The challenge is to integrate the use of these tools…making them all work together in the most efficient way…because your time is valuable, right?

What is the difference in the way you present yourself, your art, your cause or your service on each one of these platforms…because there is a difference you know.

They’re all about engagement, but what works on Facebook, where you more or less know your “friends”, won’t necessary fly well on Twitter where you are engaging in the “global conversation” to maximize your reach. And believe it: if you are presenting yourself well on Twitter, they will find you.

Building a successful social media presence, requires an understanding of how these different environments work, and plugging away at it…Your art, your mission, your business is worth it…right?

And of particular value to artists is the Arts Map. If you’re not on the Arts Map, you should be, and if you are, how are you leveraging your Arts Map presence?

Whether you are a novice or a little further along, you can learn something of value at “Social media for Artists and Non-profits” (and small biz too!) to be held at Ten Pound Studio, 1 Center St., Gloucester on Saturday, June 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring a laptop if you have one (wifi available).
